April 2025 Lineup at Jewell on Capitol

Looking for exciting things to do in downtown Omaha this January? Jewell on Capitol, a premier live music venue in Omaha’s Capitol District, has a stellar lineup of performances that are sure to elevate your Omaha nightlife experience. From jazz and soul to indie-folk and genre-bending acts, here’s what’s happening this month:

April 4th: Juke Butter

If you’re a fan of deep grooves, soulful melodies, and music that makes you move, then it’s time to get acquainted with Juke Butter. Neo-vintage organ trio Juke Butter delivers high-energy, deep-grooving funk, R&B, and jazz, embodying the Creole spirit of "juke"—raising a ruckus and letting loose—while embracing the philosophy that butter makes everything better. Led by Grammy-nominated keyboardist Mitch Towne, whose versatility has made him a sought-after collaborator with artists like John "J.R." Robinson, Aloe Blacc, and Terrace Martin, the trio brings together powerhouse talent. Towne’s recent work includes the formation of SRT, a supergroup that debuted internationally in 2023 with Vanguards of Groove. Saxophonist Chad Stoner, an Omaha favorite, channels his gospel, R&B, and jazz influences into a soulful sound that has captivated audiences at top festivals and venues. Drummer Andrew Brookins, also an Omaha native, has made his mark through national tours and acclaimed performances, including work with the Salem Baptist Church at the Holland Arts and Performance Center.

April 11th: Tyi Hakeem & Brown Suga: A Tribute to Roberta Flack & Angie Stone with vocalist Rayford Jones

We're so excited to welcome back by popular demand Tyi Hakeem, a Lincoln, NE native now living in Omaha, has been singing professionally for over 20 years. You may have heard with performing with bands such as Boss Philly, D Funk, and locally as the lead singer with Ed Archibald and Moments Of Soul. Tyi brings a strong R&B/Soul feel to her music and generates a fun, danceable groove to the show.”

April 12th: Andre Vander Velde with Jaguar James

Iowa-based songwriter Andre Vander Velde's smooth voice and deft touch on the acoustic guitar fill his self-titled album, which features seven tracks, mixed and recorded with Jeremy Garrett at Hidden Tracks Recording Studio. The songs flow from one to the next perfectly, telling stories of love, family, compassion, unity and peace, with some wisdom from the ups and downs of life mixed in for good measure. Andre's work on the guitar complements his vocals to offer a soothing, contemplative listening experience.

Brady Bock, owner of Harney Street Tavern, said his “warm sound and positive energy surrounds everyone in the room”. And it’s true — his warm, intimate sound takes you from wherever you're listening - the gym, on a walk, at the office or in the car - and puts you right there in the room with Andre for a one-person concert

April 18th: Parfait

“Parfait” is a genre-bending trio that combines all the favorite styles and flavors of music that you know and love, with modern twists on video game music, funk, soul, and jazz. Born on the corner of 11th & Howard in the Old Market of Omaha, the multi-instrumentalist trio; Jimmy Cuadros, Alex Schmer, and JordanTheNinja, spread good vibrations and spontaneous dance parties wherever they roam. April 19th: The Music of Sting and the Police with John Worsham and the Novak & Haar Trio

The Novak & Haar Trio is a piano-driven jazz group consisting of husband and wife duo Jennifer Novak Haar, piano, and Mark Haar, bass, along with special guest Mike De Luca on drums. The group plays standards and jazz-influenced pop (even country!) that appeals to a wide range of audience members. During the Christmas season, they bring out their Charlie Brown Christmas show, which is a big crowd pleaser. The trio works with many singers and horn players in the Omaha area and can expand to a quartet or even larger combos, and they are the backup band for several singers on the Nebraska Arts Council touring artist roster. The trio performs at concerts, restaurants, weddings, and parties throughout Nebraska and beyond and have a large following. All three musicians are accomplished on their own, touring nationally and internationally and recording with various groups. Their first album together is being released in December 2024, and they have recorded a number of music videos, which can be found on Jennifer Novak Haar's YouTube channel.
